Senior Vice President Global Risk

SmartestEnergy
London

We are seeking a visionary Senior Vice President Global Risk (SVP Global Risk) to lead the design and delivery of a global risk function that underpins the Group’s growth strategy. As the most senior risk professional in the business, this role will work closely with the Board and executive leadership to shape risk strategy, embed a disciplined corporate risk culture, and provide strategic oversight across all global operations. With responsibility for building a centralised global risk platform, the SVP will ensure consistent governance, compliance with best practice, and proactive management of enterprise-wide risks.

This is a unique opportunity to drive transformation and establish SmartestEnergy as a leader in global risk management. The SVP will chair the Global Risk Management Committee, lead a high-performing international team, and act as a trusted advisor on all risk-related matters, from capital allocation and commercial initiatives to information security and regulatory compliance. By championing global standards, frameworks, and policies, and fostering a culture of accountability and engagement, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the Group’s future and enabling its strategic ambitions.

What skills/experience do I need to be successful?

  • Proven leadership of senior teams (4+ direct reports), ideally in energy trading, financial services, or commodities;
  • Extensive experience communicating with (senior) stakeholders, internally and externally, drafting documents and delivering presentations;
  • Extensive experience in enterprise risk management, including market and credit risk;
  • Deep understanding of physical and renewable energy markets, trading instruments, and risk modelling;
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks across UK (Ofgem), US (FERC), and Australian (AEMO) energy sectors.

What sets us apart?

  • Global Impact: With offices in the UK, US, and Australia, and plans for further expansion, you'll be part of a dynamic, globally-minded team, with opportunities to explore new markets and make a difference on a global scale.
  • Flexible Working: Embrace the freedom to work from anywhere in the world for up to 30 days a year. We prioritize work-life balance, recognizing that your well-being matters. Find out more here.
