SEN Teaching Assistant - Sidcup
We are seeking a patient, caring, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Sidcup, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with special educational needs and helping them access learning in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
The school has a strong inclusive ethos and is committed to meeting the individual needs of every child. Staff work closely together to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. Senior leadership is approachable and supportive, offering ongoing training, guidance, and professional development opportunities.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, and external professionals to support pupils with additional needs. Your role will include providing one-to-one and small-group support, assisting with classroom learning, and helping pupils develop independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ social and emotional development, helping them regulate emotions, build relationships, and engage positively with learning. Consistent communication with staff and parents will ensure pupils receive coordinated and effective support.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEND
Assist in delivering personalised learning plans, IEPs, and EHCP targets
Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and break times
Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress
Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCo, and support staff
Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals when required
Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and CPD
Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
