Attendance Officer Role in a Successful Primary School
A Successful Primary School in Barking is seeking to appoint a dedicated and organised Attendance Officer to join its committed support staff team. About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and improving pupil attendance, working closely with the Headteacher, senior leaders, class teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure attendance remains a key priority across the school.
You will maintain accurate attendance records, identify attendance trends, communicate with families regarding absences, and support intervention strategies that help remove barriers to regular school attendance. The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build positive relationships with parents and carers.

Key Responsibilities
Monitor daily attendance and punctuality across the school
Maintain accurate attendance records using the school's management information system
Contact parents and carers regarding pupil absences
Identify attendance concerns and support intervention strategies
Produce attendance reports for senior leaders and external agencies
Work closely with safeguarding and pastoral teams
Organise attendance meetings and maintain appropriate documentation
Promote a culture of excellent attendance throughout the school community

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Previous experience in an attendance, administration, or pastoral support role
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and school management systems
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Professional, proactive, and able to build positive relationships with families
Desirable
Experience working within a school or educational setting
Knowledge of SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom, or similar management information systems
Understanding of attendance legislation, safeguarding, and child protection
Experience working alongside external agencies to improve attendance
