We’re growing our Consulting practice at NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) and are looking for a flexible, delivery-focused Consultant to join the team. This is a generalist consulting role, so you’ll work on a wide variety of projects from transformation and operational efficiency to procurement optimisation and workforce initiatives.

You’ll lead workstreams, manage medium-sized projects, and support the development of Junior consultants. Alongside delivering high-quality outcomes, you’ll help shape proposals and identify opportunities to keep us competitive in a financially constrained market. We can offer great career progression opportunities, the ability to be based anywhere across the UK, benefits you can flex to meet your needs, and training and development opportunities. Hybrid working applies, you’ll need to attend meetings or training at agreed locations as required as well as travel to client sites.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and deliver specific project workstreams or medium-scale consulting projects.
  • Work across diverse assignments including transformation, commercial improvement, operational efficiency, procurement optimisation, and shared services.
  • Ensure high-quality outputs, timely delivery, and strong client satisfaction.
  • Help shape consulting propositions, business cases, and bids in a competitive NHS environment.
  • Build credibility and influence senior NHS partners to simplify complex problems and drive change.
  • Line manage and develop junior consultants, supporting their growth and performance.

What you’ll bring:

  • Consulting experience or strong NHS transformation/commercial/operational expertise.
  • Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects and quickly learn new domains.
  • Strong commercial understanding, including shaping proposals and assessing value.
  • Proven experience delivering change, procurement, or operational efficiency projects.
  • Excellent partner engagement and influencing skills.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.

It would be great if you had:

  • Experience in an established consultancy or public-sector specialist environment.
  • Background in NHS procurement, commercial functions, shared services, or digital transformation.
  • Knowledge of public sector frameworks and procurement processes.
  • Understanding of NHS financial pressures and constraints.

If you’re interested in this role but not sure if your skills and experience are exactly what we’re looking for, please do apply we’d love to hear from you!

Employment Type: Full-time Permanent.

Location: UK Wide With travel to client site

Security Clearance Level: BPSS

Salary: £50,000 - £70,000

Benefits: 10% Bonus , £5,400 car allowance, 25 days annual leave with the option to buy additional days, private medical, life assurance, pension, and generous flexible benefits fund.
