About Us:
THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO’S PERSUASIVE POWERS
Our Adult Services & Public Health team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives. Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of – and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here. Please view the extraordinary story of Giro’s Persuasive Powers .The Role:
As a Multimedia Support Worker you’ll make your own powerful contribution to Westminster’s success. You’ll be working on a on-to-one basis with people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, so some will have challenging behaviour, complex needs or require personal care. Your day-to-day responsibilities will focus on the use of the latest technology as you create digital communications and update the personalised programs they use, and you’ll also assist them and other Support Workers as they use a wide range of hardware, equipment and educational software.
Encouraging service users to be independent and develop the confidence to take more control of their lives, you’ll provide the assistance they need as they improve the quality of their lives, cultivate meaningful relationships and enjoy engaging, creative activities. Don’t worry if you haven’t got all the skills and expertise you’ll need – we’ll provide you with training in person-centred active support and the PROACT SCIPr-UK framework as you create innovative multimedia sessions that will help the people you work with achieve their goals and, in some cases, secure paid employment. It goes without saying that you’ll use confidentiality guidelines when handling any personal information, promote their equality, diversity and human rights, and be accountable for their health both inside the building where you work, and outside when escorting or – if you hold a UK driving licence – when working as a driver. Training staff in other services in the use of multimedia equipment and software will be another key task, as will supporting the Multimedia Service Manager with archiving, cataloguing and data protection. We’ll also expect you to liaise with other teams, external agencies and families to promote the use of multimedia and assistive technology, create instructional and promotional videos, keep up to date with the latest developments in equipment and technology, and maintain your knowledge of current policies, procedures and safeguarding initiatives. Please refer to the for more information.About You:
To be a success in this vital role you should have plenty of practical experience in the use of the latest digital communication technologies, the ability to work alongside people with complex and enduring needs, and the skills to plan individual support and group activities that meet their requirements. A highly motivated and collaborative team player, and capable of contributing to and implementing person-centred planning, you’ll possess good understanding of current legislation regarding capacity, consent and safeguarding, experience of promoting equality, diversity and human rights, and well developed knowledge of the use of multimedia, information and assistive technology.
A skilled and confident communicator, and able to work in partnership with people with learning disabilities, their families and carers, case managers, health professionals and other agencies, you’ll be committed to empowering our service users to develop their independence and live fulfilled, positive lives. When required, you should be prepared to provide personal and intimate care, including moving and handling, and be capable of working with people whose behaviour may cause harm to themselves, others or the environment. You should possess good written English and basic financial skills, and an NVQ/Diploma Level 2 or comparable in Health and Social Care or a similar qualification is desirable. In addition, a current UK driver’s licence would be an advantage. This is a Support Worker role with a difference, and a superb opportunity to make a positive difference to peoples’ lives with a service that’s always looking to build on its resources to empower everyone who uses it.
