Senior Cyber Engineer
  Full-time | Permanent
  Reports to: Cyber Engineering Manager

Royal Mail Group operates one of the UK’s largest and most complex technology environments — from national mail processing centres and delivery depots to cloud-based digital customer platforms. As a Senior Cyber Engineer, you’ll play a key role in securing this vast, high-availability landscape by designing and implementing advanced cyber security controls and SIEM capabilities across cloud, on-premises, and operational technology environments.

  What You’ll Do

  • Architect, implement, and manage enterprise-grade security tools and solutions across diverse environments.
  • Develop, enforce, and continuously improve security standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Review, assess, and implement changes through formal security change control processes, ensuring that modifications are secure, documented, and properly validated.
  • Integrate, refine, and automate telemetry pipelines across platforms to enhance detection, visibility, and data quality.
  • Manage and enhance Royal Mail’s PKI and certificate infrastructure, and support implementation of Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME) capabilities
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and lead proof-of-concept testing to strengthen RMG’s cyber posture.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and platform teams to embed security by design into core systems.

  What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience as a Senior Security or Cyber Engineer within a large, complex enterprise.
  • Deep technical proficiency with:
    • Microsoft Sentinel (or equivalent SIEM)— including connector configuration, data normalisation, and log ingestion pipelines
    • Next-Gen EDR/XDR (CrowdStrike Falcon or similar)
    • CASB / ZTNA (Zscaler or equivalent)
    • Cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred)
    • Knowledge of PKI , SSL / TLS certificate management , and related infrastructure components, including certificate lifecycle automation and public CA integration.
  • Strong understanding of network, identity, and endpoint security principles.
  • Experience with scripting or automation ( KQL , PowerShell ) for integrating and managing security tools.
  • Ability to deliver hands-on engineering work — from solution design through to implementation and optimisation.
  • Analytical mindset and methodical problem-solving approach, with a focus on scalability and precision.

 Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security , or equivalent professional experience (preferred).
  • Relevant technical certifications such as CompTIA Security+ , Microsoft AZ-500 / SC-200 , CISM , or GICSP .

 Why join us

You’ll join a forward-thinking cyber engineering function driving the next evolution of Royal Mail’s security architecture.
You’ll work across a uniquely hybrid estate  — from Azure cloud workloads to on-prem and OT environments — designing security controls that protect the systems keeping Royal Mail running every day.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who wants to build and deliver impactful security solutions at national scale.
