Reports to: Cyber Engineering Manager
Royal Mail Group operates one of the UK’s largest and most complex technology environments — from national mail processing centres and delivery depots to cloud-based digital customer platforms. As a Senior Cyber Engineer, you’ll play a key role in securing this vast, high-availability landscape by designing and implementing advanced cyber security controls and SIEM capabilities across cloud, on-premises, and operational technology environments.
What You’ll Do
- Architect, implement, and manage enterprise-grade security tools and solutions across diverse environments.
- Develop, enforce, and continuously improve security standards, policies, and best practices.
- Review, assess, and implement changes through formal security change control processes, ensuring that modifications are secure, documented, and properly validated.
- Integrate, refine, and automate telemetry pipelines across platforms to enhance detection, visibility, and data quality.
- Manage and enhance Royal Mail’s PKI and certificate infrastructure, and support implementation of Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME) capabilities
- Evaluate emerging technologies and lead proof-of-concept testing to strengthen RMG’s cyber posture.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and platform teams to embed security by design into core systems.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience as a Senior Security or Cyber Engineer within a large, complex enterprise.
- Deep technical proficiency with:
- Microsoft Sentinel (or equivalent SIEM)— including connector configuration, data normalisation, and log ingestion pipelines
- Next-Gen EDR/XDR (CrowdStrike Falcon or similar)
- CASB / ZTNA (Zscaler or equivalent)
- Cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred)
- Knowledge of PKI , SSL / TLS certificate management , and related infrastructure components, including certificate lifecycle automation and public CA integration.
- Strong understanding of network, identity, and endpoint security principles.
- Experience with scripting or automation ( KQL , PowerShell ) for integrating and managing security tools.
- Ability to deliver hands-on engineering work — from solution design through to implementation and optimisation.
- Analytical mindset and methodical problem-solving approach, with a focus on scalability and precision.
�� Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security , or equivalent professional experience (preferred).
- Relevant technical certifications such as CompTIA Security+ , Microsoft AZ-500 / SC-200 , CISM , or GICSP .
