PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £41,000 - £51,000 (plus London Weighting of £5,441) depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Live Event Manager leads the editorial and event production planning for BBC Radio events across the popular music stations. You’ll help ensure every event runs smoothly, safely, and to the highest editorial standards—bringing unforgettable experiences to audiences. This role will lead a small project team in the logistics, production, and stakeholder communications while championing inclusivity, sustainability, and financial accountability.

The Event Manager is responsible for the planning organising broadcast requirements of events across the popular music stations. You’ll a lead project team delivering Popular Music events flagship Live Music events such as Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Radio 2 in the Park, 6 Music Festival, and Asian Network Certified. You'll support the strategic long-term planning for the events for BBC Radio Network to align with BBC's overall objectives, brand alignment and network goals. This includes finding venues, assessing the logistical feasibility, audience and production requirements.

For Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Radio 2 In the Park, the assigned Event Manager will collaborate closely with the Festival Production Executive to ensure seamless integration of broadcast elements and coordination of broadcast teams across the festival site. The Festival Production Executive will lead and oversee the strategic planning, event site production management and stakeholder coordination.

While Event Managers may deliver events across multiple radio networks, they will also have responsibility for the day-to-day management of an assigned Radio network’s event calendar. They will oversee its delivery and task-manage Event Coordinators on small to medium events within this calendar.

The BBC Live Music & Events team is a specialist team within the BBC's Content division. We are responsible for delivering all live music and event activity across Radio 1, Radio 2, 6 Music, 1Xtra, and Asian Network, working closely with colleagues in BBC Introducing and across BBC Music. Our mission is to grow audiences by producing impactful and sustainable live music and events for broadcast.

As an Event Manager, you’ll take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of major live events—driving strategy, managing budgets, and ensuring operational excellence. You’ll oversee all stages of production, from initial planning and contracting to on-site execution, ensuring every detail meets the highest editorial and safety standards.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Event Management – Lead the planning, production, and delivery of live music events across BBC’s popular music networks. You’ll a lead project team to deliver events and take responsibility for coordinating all requirements for successful event delivery—this includes assessing proposed locations for suitability and safety, conducting recces, managing communications, overseeing budgets, contracts, stage production.
  • Event Delivery – Own the on-site execution of events and studio productions, ensuring seamless delivery and adherence to BBC standards. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, external suppliers, talent, artists, and contributors to achieve shared goals and deliver exceptional audience experiences.
  • Innovation and creativity: Drive a culture of continuous improvement by championing innovation in live event production. Implement creative strategies that elevate audience engagement and maintain the BBC’s reputation for excellence in live music events.
  • Financial Responsibility -Take accountability for event budgets, ensuring robust governance, transparency, and cost control across all production activities.
  • Health and Safety: Lead the implementation of health, safety, security, and safeguarding protocols to ensure all events meet the highest legal and BBC standards. Strive to deliver events that are inclusive, diverse, and accessible throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Sustainability - Lead efforts to embed sustainability into event production, ensuring alignment with the BBC’s commitment to Net Zero, People, and Nature Positive principles.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Exceptional Organisational Leadership – Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, manage multiple priorities, and deliver under pressure with precision and attention to detail.
  • Project Leadership and Communication Skills – Proven experience in leading teams and influencing stakeholders, talent, and suppliers to achieve shared objectives and deliver outstanding results.
  • Strategic Problem-Solving – A proactive and resilient approach to overcoming challenges, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure and adapt quickly in live event environments.
  • Extensive Live Event Experience – Demonstrable experience in managing live music events, ideally within popular music, with a deep understanding of technical and operational requirements.
  • Financial Accountability – Strong experience in managing budgets, ensuring transparency, cost control, and delivering auditable production values within financial constraints.
