Academics are working with a primary school in Barking & Dagenham that is looking for a dedicated Reading Recovery Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support to pupils who need an extra boost with their reading.

Position: Reading Recovery Teaching Assistant
Location: Barking & Dagenham
Contract: ASAP – July 2027, with the option to go permanent afterwards
Pay: £93–£120 per day
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

As a Reading Recovery Teaching Assistant in Barking & Dagenham, you will provide focused support to pupils who need additional help developing their reading skills.

You will work with children individually and in small groups, helping them improve their phonics, reading fluency, comprehension and confidence. Working alongside the class teacher, you will reinforce key skills and make reading enjoyable and accessible.

This role would suit someone who is patient, encouraging and genuinely enjoys helping children overcome challenges with their learning.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver targeted reading support to pupils.
* Work one-to-one and with small groups.
* Support phonics, comprehension and reading fluency.
* Encourage children to develop a love of reading.
* Adapt activities to suit individual learning needs.
* Monitor pupil engagement and progress.
* Work closely with teachers and other support staff.

Candidate Requirements

* Previous experience working with children is advantageous.
* Strong literacy and communication skills.
* Confident supporting reading and phonics.
* Patient and encouraging approach.
* Ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
* Organised and adaptable.
* Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply.
