The EYFS team works collaboratively to deliver a balanced approach to learning, combining structured teaching with child-led play. Teaching Assistants are highly valued and actively involved in planning, delivery, and assessment within the Early Years setting.
Role Purpose
As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will support children in Nursery and Reception, helping them to develop key skills in communication, early literacy, numeracy, and social interaction. You will work closely with the class teacher and EYFS Lead to support both whole-class activities and targeted interventions.
The role involves supporting children with SEN, speech and language needs, EAL, and emotional or behavioural difficulties , ensuring that all pupils can access learning and feel confident within the classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support daily EYFS learning activities in line with the EYFS framework
Provide one-to-one and small group support for children requiring additional help
Support pupils with SEN, including autism and communication needs
Assist with phonics, early reading, writing, and maths activities
Promote positive behaviour, routines, and emotional regulation
Support learning through indoor and outdoor play-based activities
Help maintain a safe, stimulating, and organised learning environment
Observe and record children’s progress and share feedback with teachers
Support children during transitions and unstructured times
Work collaboratively with EYFS staff, SENCO, and parents
Uphold safeguarding, health, and safety procedures at all times
The Ideal Candidate
The school is seeking an enthusiastic and committed EYFS Teaching Assistant who:
Has experience in EYFS, Nursery, or early years settings
Understands child development and play-based learning
Has experience or a strong interest in SEN and inclusive education
Is calm, patient, and emotionally responsive
Works well as part of a team
Is proactive, reliable, and reflective in practice
