The Role
As a Graduate Speech and Language Teaching Assistant , you’ll work closely with pupils aged 5–19 with autism, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs. You’ll support students 1:1 and in small groups , helping them develop essential communication skills and build confidence in the classroom.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) .
- Delivering targeted interventions set by Speech and Language Therapists (SaLTs).
- Encouraging confidence, independence, and social interaction.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists.
- Assisting with daily routines, learning activities, and progress monitoring.
Person Specification
- A graduate in Psychology, Speech and Language, Education, or a related field.
- Interest in speech and language therapy, SEN education, or child development .
- Previous experience supporting children with SEN (desirable but not essential).
- Strong empathy, patience, and communication skills.
- A proactive and adaptable team player.
