Associate Director, BCO

HSBC Global Services Limited
London

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

Shape the credit decisions that power some of HSBC’s most important Corporate & Institutional Banking relationships. As an Associate Director, Business Credit Office (BCO) within Credit & Capital Management (CCM COO), you’ll sit at the heart of our lending and underwriting journey - partnering with Coverage, Transaction Support and Risk to deliver fast, high-quality credit outcomes while keeping risk and controls front and centre. It’s a role with real visibility and impact: you’ll help drive a globally consistent credit operating model, bring smarter ways of working through digital and process improvement, and support a culture where we make confident decisions and get things done together.

In this role you’ll:

  • Deliver BCO outputs in line with agreed performance measures, ensuring high-quality, timely execution.
  • Lead and manage the end-to-end CCM journey, creating a seamless and efficient process for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Embed exemplary first line of defence risk management and control standards across underwriting and lending processes.
  • Proactively identify and anticipate portfolio and macro/micro credit risks, escalating issues and supporting rapid portfolio reviews and underwriting criteria changes where needed within identified Sectors
  • Partner closely with Coverage, Transaction Support and Risk to structure deals, perform credit analysis/rating recommendations, support credit monitoring and manage documentation as primary credit risk contact.
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity and client experience, including adoption of technology/digital and alignment to a globally consistent Credit & Lending operating model.
  • Monitor and analyse customer/stakeholder feedback and use insights to improve outcomes and service consistency.
  • Support people leadership outcomes including talent/performance management and succession planning, building a diverse, innovation-driven and highly engaged team.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Degree in Business/Finance/Economics (or equivalent); professional qualifications (e.g., CFA/Chartered Banker) desirable, or strong tenured experience in credit analysis/approvals.
  • Strong understanding of Corporate and Institutional Banking and corporate lending. Sector expertise in areas such as Consumer, TMT, Industrials, highly desirable
  • Proven experience managing/analysing corporate credit risk / lending-related products.
  • Mandatory knowledge of Investment Banking products (e.g., Securities, Treasury, FX, Derivatives) and awareness of ESG/Climate risk.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across Business and Risk, balancing commercial outcomes with robust risk management.
  • Expertise in credit risk management, control assessment, and operationalising policies/procedures in line with Group standards; excellent analytical, problem-solving and credit writing skills in English.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess complex credit scenarios.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
