English Teacher - Outstanding School - Merton

A high-performing Outstanding School in Merton is seeking a creative and committed English Teacher to join its English Department. The school is looking for someone who can build students' confidence in reading and writing while helping them develop the analytical skills required for GCSE success.

You will teach English across KS3 and KS4, delivering a curriculum that develops students' ability to read critically, communicate effectively and write with increasing accuracy and sophistication.

At KS3, you will introduce students to a range of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama while building their vocabulary and analytical skills. At GCSE, you will prepare students for both English Language and Literature, helping them develop confident responses to unseen texts and set works.

You will encourage students to discuss texts, develop interpretations and support their ideas with relevant evidence. Written work will be assessed regularly, with clear feedback provided to help students improve their structure, expression and analysis.

The successful teacher will be able to create lessons that are purposeful but engaging, ensuring students of different abilities are appropriately supported and challenged.

English Teacher - School Information

English Teacher - Experience and Qualifications

  • English Degree or related subject

  • QTS or recognised teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching English at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4

  • GCSE English Language and Literature experience

  • Strong subject knowledge

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Strong classroom management

  • Effective planning and assessment skills

  • Ability to differentiate learning

  • Commitment to improving literacy and attainment

Salary

The salary for this English Teacher position will be paid to scale on MPS/UPS, depending on experience and qualifications.
