About the role:
The Electrical Engineer willbe responsible fordelivering a high-quality electrical maintenance service across the University. This includes carrying out both reactive and planned preventive maintenance (PPM), ensuring statutory compliance,identifyingand resolving faults, and supporting the ongoing development of the maintenance function through training and real-time reporting systems.
Therole will ensure completion of allmandatedHealth & Safety training, including eLearning modules, within requiredtimeframestomaintaincompliance with statutory and organisationalstandards.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of electrical systems, installations, and equipment.
- Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests and resolve faults efficiently to minimise disruption to university operations.
- Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems to ensure statutory and legal compliance (e.g. emergency lighting, fixed wire testing, PAT testing).
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults across a wide range of systems, including distribution boards, lighting, small power, and control panels.
- Assistwith installation and modification of electrical equipment and systems asrequired.
- Ensure all works are completedin accordance withrelevant legislation, regulations, and university safety procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all statutory testing, maintenance, and repairs using the universitys CAFM (Computer-Aided Facilities Management)app.
- Participate in audits and compliance reviews as needed.
- Accurately document work carried out in real time using digital reporting tools or mobile devices.
- Communicate effectively withcontractors andteam members to coordinate maintenance activities.
- Provide feedback on recurring issues or inefficiencies to help improve service delivery and system performance.
- Undertake ongoing technical training and statutory certification tomaintainup-to-date knowledge of best practices and legal requirements.
- Attend toolbox talks, health & safety briefings, and compliance training sessions.
- To undertake training and qualify as Authorised/Responsible/Competent Persons as required.
- Support apprentices or junior engineers with knowledge-sharing and mentorship whereappropriate.
- Form part of thededicated-oncall engineering team with scheduled / rota on call weeks. Required tobe available for seven days to take calls, attend site whenrequiredtoinvestigate and deal with reported issues. Unresolved issues need to be escalated to duty manager as and whenrequired.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract
About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Recognised electrical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds / AM2/ Electrical Apprenticeship JTL or similar)
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations certification
- Proven experience in a similar maintenance role, ideally within a large and complex estate
- IT literate - Use of iPad / SharePoint / Emails / MS Teams / CAFM reporting
- Strong fault-finding skills and ability to work independently under pressure
- Good knowledge of health and safety practices in a maintenance environment
- Good knowledge and understanding of building services systems and safe working practices (inclusive of mechanical systems)
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in an educational or public sector environment
- HV/LV Authorised Person
- Level 3 Award in Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations 2391/2394+2395
- Knowledge of energy efficiency or sustainability initiatives related to electrical systems
- Mechanical qualification or relevant experience / BMS / Controls knowledge and experience
