Spanish Teacher | Forward-Thinking Secondary Academy |...
CORE PURPOSE
We require an inspiring, linguistically precise Spanish Teacher to deliver outstanding Spanish instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with opportunities to contribute to post-16 advanced pathways. Operating within an ambitious, oversubscribed secondary comprehensive school, the successful candidate will facilitate a knowledge-rich, immersive curriculum designed to foster high target-language fluency, spontaneous communication, and a sophisticated understanding of Hispanic culture, preparing all pupils thoroughly for exceptional outcomes in terminal GCSE public examinations.
THE SCHOOL
Our comprehensive school is dedicated to cultivating an ambitious and highly academic learning environment where every student is challenged to achieve their full potential. As a forward-thinking school with a strong local reputation, we blend rigorous academic standards with a supportive, inclusive atmosphere. The modern foreign languages department is characterized by a culture of intellectual curiosity, vibrant linguistic immersion, and collaborative planning, where teachers share a passion for language acquisition and evidence-based pedagogy. We operate a highly supportive, centralized behaviour system that minimizes classroom disruption, allowing teachers to focus entirely on delivering high-impact, deeply engaging Spanish instruction.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
High-Fluency & Target-Language Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-impact Spanish lessons across all attainment pathways, systematically embedding phonics mastery, vocabulary retrieval, and complex grammatical scaffolding to build listening, reading, writing, and speaking confidence.
Oracy & Spontaneous Speech Production: Cultivate a vibrant, interactive classroom environment, utilizing low-stakes speaking frameworks and targeted questioning strategies to encourage pupils to speak spontaneously in Spanish, minimizing target-language anxiety.
GCSE Performance Optimization: Guide Year 11 examination cohorts meticulously through the rigorous demands of linear terminal papers across all core skills, utilizing formative test data to isolate and eliminate vocabulary gaps and maximize high-grade boundary retention.
Closing MFL Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers within mixed-ability cohorts, deploying visual logic models, sentence-builder frameworks, and scaffolded translation structures to ensure accessibility for SEND pupils while stretching high-prior-attaining linguists.
Inclusive Pastoral Support: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, supporting pupil wellbeing, managing daily registration routines, and maintaining proactive, positive communication with families.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Spanish Studies or Modern Foreign Languages. Native or near-native target language proficiency is required.
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics and exceptional performance outcomes in terminal public GCSE examinations through highly structured, systematic, and explicit language pedagogy.
Global & Enthusiastic Ethos: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, possessing the exceptional communication skills, empathy, and cultural passion required to inspire all pupils with a love for language learning and global citizenship.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
A Diverse Cultural Capital with Global Horizons: Based in the vibrant North London borough of Waltham Forest, the school capitalizes on a dynamic, richly multicultural community that proudly celebrates linguistic diversity and international outlooks. As a former London Borough of Culture, the area provides a highly creative and cosmopolitan backdrop that underscores the vital importance of language and global communication, connecting classroom Spanish instruction directly to London's international creative networks, diverse heritage communities, and global commercial sectors.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from premium capital transport infrastructure, offering straightforward commuting links across Greater London and Essex via the North Circular Road (A406), the A12, and the M11 corridor. Public transit networks operate flawlessly, utilizing extensive London Buses networks alongside premium London Underground and London Overground links—including Central line services from Leyton and Walthamstow Central, Victoria line connections, and high-frequency rail links that connect the school effortlessly to Stratford, Liverpool Street, and central London.
