Biostatisticians at Novartis transform data into evidence that informs decisions across the product lifecycle and supports access to innovative medicines.

We are seeking an Associate Director/Director, HTA Biostatistics, to provide strategic statistical leadership for Health Technology Assessment, pricing and reimbursement and market access activities. The role will partner with International Value & Access, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Real-World Evidence, and external experts to deliver scientifically rigorous and payer-relevant evidence.
The Associate Director/Director will help advance Novartis HTA capabilities, support reimbursement dossiers in Novartis key markets, and contribute to the Joint Clinical Assessment dossiers as outlined in Regulation (EU) 2021/2282.

About the Role

Major accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic statistical leadership for HTA, pricing and reimbursement, market access, and integrated evidence-generation activities across assigned programs.
  • Partner with cross-functional and cross-regional teams to ensure HTA evidence is scientifically rigorous, decision-relevant, and aligned with intended use.
  • Lead the implementation of efficient HTA methods. Demonstrated hands-on experience with population-adjustment methodology and evidence synthesis. Ability to select, implement, critique, and defend methods under payer scrutiny.
  • Advanced practical experience in several additional methods relevant to HTA, such as survival extrapolation, treatment-switching adjustment, health-state utility analysis for mapping and application of preference weights, causal inference involving real-world evidence, missing-data methods, external controls and transportability.
  • Strong understanding of drug development and the relationship between regulatory and payer requirements across the product lifecycle.
  • Drive early and continuous evidence synthesis strategy to inform HTA planning and decision-making.
  • Contribute to standards, reusable templates, automation, and best practices that improve the quality, consistency, and scalability of HTA analyses.
  • Support responses to payers and HTA questions and contribute to scientific interactions with decision-making agencies, healthcare professionals, and external experts.
  • Communicate complex statistical findings, assumptions, limitations, and recommendations clearly to statistical and non-statistical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to publication work across assets.
  • Plan, prioritize, and oversee project-level activities across parallel programs, ensuring effective resource management and delivery of high-quality statistical outputs.
  • Support vendor selection and provide scientific and quality oversight for outsourced HTA activities
  • Established scientific credibility demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, methodological contributions, guidance development, or active leadership in relevant professional or HTA special-interest groups. Director candidates should demonstrate a sustained and visible external contribution.
  • Coach and mentor biostatisticians in HTA statistical methodologies, processes, and scientific communication.

Essential requirements

  • PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics or a related quantitative field with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in HTA, reimbursement evidence generation, and indirect treatment comparison methods
  • Advanced understanding of drug development and the evidence needs, decision drivers, and review processes of major HTA and reimbursement bodies across multiple regions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver multiple complex, parallel projects across therapeutic areas and to influence senior decision-making in a global matrix environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable requirements

  • Experience supporting Joint Clinical Assessment requirements in Europe.
  • Experience in Immunology and/or another major therapeutic area.
  • Experience with health economics and outcomes research, real-world evidence, data science, automation, or AI-enabled evidence generation.

Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role: 83,510.00 - 155,090.00 GBP Annual

The base salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.

In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for a performance-based bonus depending on certain performance parameters.
