Tech Product Owner - AI
Ready to shape how AI moves safely from prototype to production at scale?
Why HSBC
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
This role owns the product strategy and delivery for the Group Functions Technology AI roadmap. You’ll translate a clear platform vision into a multi-quarter plan that increases AI ambition through practical, use case-driven outcomes. Working across technology and business teams you’ll build shared capabilities that make it easier to experiment, deploy, monitor and govern AI solutions. Success means measurable adoption, reliability, cost and risk outcomes across the AI lifecycle. You’ll embed controls by design for model risk management, data privacy, security and auditability so solutions can scale safely across the organisation. You’ll also provide clear reporting and updates for senior executives to support decisions and prioritisation.
What you'll be doing
- Define the vision for standardised AI/ML tooling, reusable services and governed pathways to production
- Translate strategy into a multi-quarter roadmap with clear priorities across capability build, reliability, technical debt and controls
- Establish OKRs and KPIs for adoption, reliability, cost and risk outcomes
- Represent internal customers across Engineering, Analytics, Risk, Compliance and business-aligned AI teams
- Run discovery across the AI lifecycle to identify friction points and validate solutions through prototypes and MVPs
- Own the backlog, acceptance criteria and release planning using Agile and Lean delivery practices
- Coordinate dependencies across cloud, data platforms, identity and access, cyber security and production operations
- Embed operability into delivery including monitoring, alerting and runbooks alongside feature completion
- Embed controls by design for model risk management, data privacy, security and auditability across AI use cases
- Provide concise updates and reporting for senior stakeholders on progress, risks, decisions needed and value delivered
What we're looking for
- Bring substantial experience as a Technical Product Manager or Product Owner delivering internal platforms at enterprise scale
- Demonstrate technical fluency across cloud-native architecture, containers and Kubernetes, CI/CD, APIs and event-driven patterns
- Apply AI engineering experience including the use of coding agents such as Claude or Codex
- Use strong working knowledge of data and ML concepts such as training vs inference, feature stores, model registry, drift, bias and evaluation
- Apply observability and SRE practices including metrics, logs, traces, SLOs and incident management
- Embed security, privacy and risk controls into product delivery with clear governance and auditability
- Own backlog management and prioritisation with explicit trade-offs across value, reliability, cost and control requirements
- Communicate effectively with executive audiences through decision papers, roadmaps and governance packs
- Hold PSPO, CSPO, SAFe POPM or equivalent certification or bring equivalent demonstrable product delivery experience
- Hold AWS, Azure, GCP or Kubernetes certification or bring equivalent demonstrable cloud platform experience
Building HSBC’s AI Platform Roadmap
If you want to shape how AI capabilities are built, governed and scaled across Group Functions Technology this role offers real scope to make that happen. You’ll set the direction for shared AI platform capabilities and turn it into delivery that teams can adopt quickly and operate safely. The work spans technology, risk and business stakeholders with decisions that influence how AI is used across the organisation. If this sounds like the kind of platform and governance work you want to own we’d welcome your application.
