An Exciting Opportunity at the Start of Key Stage 1

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed, and creative Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Newham, starting as soon as possible. This role offers an excellent opportunity to teach pupils at a crucial point in their educational journey, supporting their transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage into more structured learning while maintaining a nurturing and engaging classroom environment.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 1 class, delivering high-quality teaching across the curriculum and supporting pupils as they develop confidence, independence, and key academic skills. The school places a strong emphasis on inclusion, high expectations, and pupil wellbeing, and is looking for a teacher who shares these values and is passionate about making a real difference.

You will be joining a supportive Key Stage 1 team where collaboration, shared planning, and professional development are actively encouraged. The school provides a positive working environment where staff feel valued and supported, and where pupils are at the heart of everything they do.

The Role

As the Year 1 Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the needs of all learners. You will support pupils in developing strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, while also encouraging curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning across the wider curriculum.

The role involves working closely with teaching assistants, phase leaders, and senior leadership to ensure high standards of teaching and learning. You will also play an important role in supporting pupils’ emotional and social development, helping them to adapt successfully to Key Stage 1 expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum

  • Use assessment effectively to track progress and inform future planning

  • Differentiate teaching to support pupils of all abilities, including SEND and EAL learners

  • Create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment

  • Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and colleagues across Key Stage 1

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress

  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and whole-school initiatives

  • Support pupils’ smooth transition from EYFS into Year 1

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Have experience teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the KS1 curriculum

  • Be confident in managing behaviour and differentiating learning

  • Be reflective, organised, and committed to continuous professional development

  • Have a nurturing approach alongside high expectations for all pupils

  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply and will receive appropriate mentoring and support.

Why Join This School?

  • Supportive and approachable leadership team

  • Collaborative and experienced Key Stage 1 staff

  • Well-resourced classrooms and structured planning support

  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression

  • A diverse and vibrant school community

  • A strong focus on staff wellbeing and work-life balance

Location

The school is located in Newham, with excellent public transport links and access to local amenities. The area is diverse, vibrant, and community-focused, making it a rewarding place to work and teach.

How to Apply

To apply, please forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, clearly outlining your qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.

Start Date: ASAP

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
