Wayman Education is working with an Independent School in Kingston upon Thames to recruit a caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant. The school provides a supportive and ambitious learning environment where pupils are encouraged to develop academically, socially and personally.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative teaching and support team, working closely with classroom teachers to help pupils engage confidently with their learning. The Role

The Teaching Assistant will work alongside classroom teachers to provide additional support to pupils throughout the school day.

The role will involve supporting pupils during lessons, helping them understand instructions, complete activities and remain engaged with their learning. The successful candidate will work with individuals and small groups where appropriate, providing additional guidance and encouragement based on pupils' individual needs.

The Teaching Assistant will assist teachers with the preparation of classroom resources and learning activities, helping to create an organised and stimulating learning environment. They will also support pupils with developing confidence, independence and positive learning habits.

The successful candidate will build strong and professional relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate boundaries and encouraging positive behaviour. They will provide reassurance and encouragement to pupils who may require additional support and help them overcome barriers to learning.

The role will also involve working closely with teachers and other members of the support team to communicate observations regarding pupil progress and engagement. Where appropriate, the Teaching Assistant may contribute to interventions and individual support strategies.

Outside the classroom, the successful candidate may assist with pupil supervision during break and lunch periods, school activities, trips and other events. The role may also include supporting the wider school community with additional responsibilities when required.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school or educational environment. Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Classroom Assistant or similar would be advantageous.

The successful applicant should be patient, approachable and confident when working with pupils of different abilities and backgrounds. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively alongside teachers are essential.

A positive attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are important. The school is looking for someone who can encourage pupils while maintaining clear expectations and professional boundaries.

An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures is essential. Previous experience supporting pupils with SEND would also be beneficial.
