Community Liver Health Checks Clinical Nurse Specialist
Job overview
This is a new and exciting 6 month fixed term opportunity (with likelihood of extension) for a motivated Registered Nurse to join the South East London (SEL) Community Liver Health Checks Projects team (within the Viral Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network (ODN) and hosted by King’s College Hospital).
The post holder will work in collaboration with the Consultant Clinical Lead, Clinical Fellow, Fibroscanning Coordinators and Project Management team to develop broad experience within the CLHC project, which is a nationally commissioned workstream to increase early detection of liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through targeted outreach, community testing, and improved pathways into care.
Previous NHS experience is essential .
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to integrate clinical and managerial skills within secondary care and primary across SEL; from delivering community clinics to working with stakeholders across the network to set up new and innovative patient pathways. They will also support with other liver surveillance initiatives as part of the ODN and wider Viral Hepatitis/Hepatology service at King’s College Hospital, at an exciting time when national initiatives are driving us from reactive late stage treatments to proactive, community based interventions.
The successful applicant will require strong clinical skills combined with sophisticated communication skills and an enthusiastic and team player mind-set. You will be encouraged to show initiative and be highly self-motivated. The role will involve delivering clinics out in the community so the post holder must be flexible concerning their working locations throughout the week.

- To work as a liver surveillance nurse practitioner and effectively deliver an evidence based expert nursing service within an integrated specialist team.
- To play an integral role in the strategic and operational development of the SEL Community Liver Health Checks team (within the SEL Viral Hepatitis ODN).
- To develop and participate in nurse led clinics, primarily in the community, to support the CLHC project across South East London.
- To identify, plan and implement pilot projects to improve community liver health checks access for high-risk populations across SEL.
- To support the development and implementation of a new HCC Surveillance registry at King’s, as part of a SEL wide Cancer Alliance initiative.
- To establish clear lines of communication and act as a liaison for all healthcare professionals involved in health care provision to facilitate integrated patient focused care
- Proactively develop educational programmes and act as a resource to other health care professionals on CLHC/Liver Surveillance, associated treatments and issues
- To act in an advisory capacity and as a point of contact for patients and their families, providing information, education and support.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First Level Registration
- Teaching in Clinical Practice Qualification/Preceptorship
- Degree in Nursing/Health related subject or working towards
Desirable criteria
- Non Medical Prescribing or willingness to undertake
- Advanced assessment skills or willingness to undertake
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience in a relevant specialty; gastroenterology /hepatology/ infectious diseases
- Proven leadership skills in managing change in clinical practice
- Participation in audit and evaluation of service
- Background knowledge of virology and Hepatology
- Proven experience of service development and working with community and primary care partners
