Freelance Woodwork Tutors

BACKGROUND Blackhorse Workshop is looking to recruit woodwork tutors to contribute to teaching our popular courses.
We are looking for makers with a passion for their craft and who are keen to share their skills with others. At Blackhorse Workshop our mission is ‘to bring people together through making, inspiring and supporting creative ambitions and building communities’.
Role Description: The role is responsible for the delivery of our range of beginners and intermediate woodwork courses, including Introduction to Hand Tools, Introduction to Machine Shop, and Introduction to Joinery, over evenings and weekends.
Working as part of a woodworking team, you will teach a varying schedule of the above courses, with the opportunity for further work and the chance to develop new courses. Evening classes run for 3 hours, teaching small groups. Weekend courses generally run 10.00-16.30. You will be responsible for the teaching of practical skills, developing students' understanding of the workshop, and ensuring safe working practice at all times.
Person Specification:
- 3 years of experience as a woodworker, including joinery skills, experience of both machinery and hand tools, and a passion for promoting the craft of woodworking.
- Previous teaching experience is desirable, but not an essential requirement
- We are looking for people with excellent verbal communication skills and strong organisational skills, who are confident and enjoy working with the public. You will be able to apply your experience to support a wide range of participants with a diverse range of experience, learning styles and needs.
- Good awareness of Health and Safety
