Biomedical Scientist
- To participate in the provision of the Immunosuppression Drug Monitoring Service performing a range of highly technical procedures within the laboratory to a high standard in line with the department standard operating procedures.
- To assist in the day-to-day tasks within the laboratory including stock control and instrument maintenance.
- To perform all core scientific work, consistent with training and qualifications of a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS). To comply with all departmental policies, protocols and standard operating procedures including health and safety.
- To assist the department in complying with UKAS ISO15189 standards.
- To improve professional expertise and specialist skills by active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
- To participate in the weekend rota after appropriate training and competency assessment.
- Complete routine biomedical investigations in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and within specific turnaround times.
- Develop specialist expertise in complex investigations and troubleshooting techniques.
- Deliver work autonomously within all regulations and legislative requirements.
- Operate and maintain complex laboratory equipment within all safety standards relevant to your area.
- Support colleagues with guidance and answering questions as required.
- Use cost effective methods in your practice and maintain levels of consumable goods and supplies in your area, and report shortages accordingly.
- BSc (Hons) IBMS accredited degree or equivalent
- HCPC State registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- IBMS membership
- Demonstrable broad-based laboratory practical experience
- Analysing, interpreting and technical validation of routine results
- Supervising junior colleagues, such as MLAs and APs
- Using Laboratory Information Systems
- Mass Spectrometry
- Ability to troubleshoot basic analytical problems
- Good written communication skills
- Able to manage time and prioritise workload
- Knowledge of quality systems, with reference to ISO/UKAS
- Understanding of health and safety legislation and procedures
