Learning Support Assistant

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm A lovely and welcoming mainstream primary school in Harrow is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and develop academically, socially, and emotionally. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who require additional support, using a range of communication methods and interventions to help them engage with learning and become more independent. The Role As a Learning Support Assistant, you will: * Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN * Support pupils to access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities * Use a range of communication strategies, including PECS and Makaton, to support pupils' communication and understanding * Deliver and support targeted interventions to address individual learning and developmental needs * Help pupils develop their communication, social, emotional, and independence skills * Support pupils with their learning and encourage positive engagement * Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils * Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team * Adapt activities and resources to meet individual pupils' needs * Promote positive behaviour, confidence, resilience, and independence * Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment About You * Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar education/support role * Experience supporting pupils with SEN is essential * Experience using PECS and/or Makaton is highly desirable * Experience supporting or delivering targeted interventions * A caring, patient, and nurturing approach * Confident supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Able to adapt your approach to meet individual pupils' needs * Passionate about supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing * Able to work effectively as part of a collaborative school team * Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply via Uniform Education) * Must be available Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm What’s on Offer * Long-term, full-time opportunity in a lovely mainstream primary school * Supportive and welcoming school environment * Opportunity to work closely with experienced SEN and teaching staff * Valuable experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs * Support from a dedicated education consultant * Potential for long-term and permanent opportunities
