Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (Ref: 006984)
As specialist Facilities Management recruiters, we are delighted to be supporting a highly prestigious London-based organisation in the appointment of a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer on a temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a large, complex and operationally busy site where engineering standards, compliance and service delivery are paramount. The role offers real responsibility, autonomy and the chance to play a key part within a professional and well-established facilities team.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical maintenance and water hygiene compliance across the site. This is a hands-on position with leadership responsibilities, including supervising engineers and managing subcontractors when required.
You will play a key role in ensuring statutory compliance, plant reliability and operational continuity within a live operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across HVAC systems, plant rooms, pumps, valves and water systems
• Act as Responsible Person for Water Hygiene, managing Legionella risk assessments and remedial actions
• Oversee weekly flushing regimes, temperature monitoring and compliance documentation
• Conduct daily plant inspections and BMS checks
• Raise and manage permits for high-risk works (hot works, confined spaces, working at height)
• Supervise subcontractors including inductions and safety briefings
• Support facilities requirements during live operations
• Assist with compliance activities including emergency lighting, fire alarms, RCD testing and statutory inspections
• Contribute to quarterly, six-monthly and annual PPM programmes including boiler servicing, HVAC inspections, gas safety checks, pressure testing and documentation reviews
Participation in an emergency on-call rota is required.
What We’re Looking For
We are keen to speak with experienced mechanical professionals who can demonstrate:
• Level 3 NVQ/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or recognised apprenticeship)
• IOSH Working or Managing Safely
• Legionella / Water Hygiene certification
• Several years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience
• Experience leading engineers and managing contractors
• Strong working knowledge of statutory compliance and SFG20 standards
• Experience using CAFM systems
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach
Desirable qualifications include NEBOSH, Gas Safe, F-Gas, CSCS, LOLER/PUWER awareness and experience within complex or live operational environments.
How to Apply
If you are an experienced Mechanical Engineer with the skills, knowledge and drive to excel in this role, we would love to hear from you. To apply, please contact the Maxwell Stephens team on 02071184848, or send your CV to [email protected].
