Security & Safety Advisor - 2 Year Fixed Term Contract

Science Museum Group
London

Help shape the future of some of the UK's most visited cultural destinations.

At the Science Museum Group (SMG), we're responsible for creating environments that are not only inspiring, but safe, secure and welcoming for everyone who visits, works and collaborates with us.

From world-renowned museums and historic buildings to major redevelopment projects and nationally significant collections, our sites welcome millions of visitors every year. Behind the scenes, our Safety team plays a vital role in helping us protect people, collections, buildings and operations whilst enabling the organisation to deliver ambitious projects and exceptional visitor experiences.

As we continue to invest in our estate through a significant programme of capital and masterplan projects, we're looking for a Security & Safety Advisor to join us on a two-year fixed-term basis.

This is an opportunity to contribute to projects that will shape the future of some of the UK's most recognised cultural institutions. Working across a diverse and complex estate, you'll provide expert security and safety advice that helps project teams, operational colleagues and senior stakeholders make informed decisions, manage risk effectively and deliver positive outcomes.

No two days will be the same. You could find yourself supporting a major redevelopment project, advising on operational security arrangements, undertaking assurance activities, contributing to design reviews or helping improve how we manage security and safety across the organisation. Whatever you're working on, you'll be helping create environments that are safe, resilient and fit for the future.

This is a role with real variety, visibility and influence. You'll work closely with colleagues across the Science Museum Group, building trusted relationships and ensuring security and safety considerations are embedded from the earliest planning stages through to delivery and operation.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a complex environment where no two challenges are quite the same.

You may already be working in a Security, Health & Safety or wider risk advisory role and be looking for an opportunity to broaden your experience across multiple disciplines, projects and sites. You'll be confident building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and comfortable providing advice, challenge and guidance to help others make informed decisions.

You'll bring strong professional judgement, excellent communication skills and a practical approach to problem solving. Most importantly, you'll be motivated by the opportunity to make a genuine difference, helping protect our people, visitors, collections and buildings whilst supporting the organisation's long-term ambitions.

* Interest-free loans. When you need a little extra cash for life events or home improvements.
* Great discounts. Free entry to exhibitions, discounts in our shops and cafes, and access to other museums in the NMDC network.

Open for All is one of the Science Museum Group's five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to develop a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation, capable to continue to Inspire Futures.
