The SENCO Role (Non‑Teaching) Although this is a non‑teaching position, the SENCO plays a highly visible and hands‑on role across the school. Responsibilities include: Classroom Support & Modelling

  • Working directly with pupils who have EHCPs, providing targeted in‑class support.
  • Modelling effective teaching strategies to strengthen classroom practice and empower teachers and support staff.
  • Ensuring high‑quality, consistent provision across all phases.
Liaison & Multi‑Agency Coordination
  • Building strong relationships with external professionals such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and other agencies.
  • Coordinating assessments, interventions, and follow‑up actions to ensure seamless support for each child.
Leadership, Monitoring & Communication
  • Providing clear, strategic feedback to senior leaders to inform whole‑school SEND development.
  • Maintaining accurate records, monitoring provision, and ensuring statutory compliance.
  • Leading on SEND reviews, provision mapping, and EHCP processes.
Parent Partnership & Community Support
  • Hosting parent drop‑in sessions to strengthen home–school collaboration.
  • Offering guidance, strategies, and reassurance to families navigating SEND support.
  • Building trusting, compassionate relationships with parents and carers.
To be successful The ideal candidate will be a SENCO who brings warmth, expertise, and a genuine passion for inclusive education. Essential requirements include:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • NASENCO Award
  • Previous Primary SENCO experience
  • A compassionate, approachable, and engaging manner
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A proactive, solution‑focused approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
