The role

We are building the sportsbook of tomorrow at FDJ United. We are recruiting a Senior Manager into our established Sportsbook Data organisation to lead our data governance strategy and implementation.

Key responsibilities

  • Champion and drive strategy for adoption of Data Mesh principles across Sportsbook Data and Engineering.
  • Define data products, the remit of data product owners, align with architects and principal engineers for how we expose products within domains and abstract implementation details within the domain.
  • Specify and own central policies, drive and influence adoption of these policies with a mandate set by senior leadership.
  • Set requirements to guide the development of our self-service data and machine learning platform to facilitate a model of decentralised data domains.
  • Set a shared vision for data governance with the Head of Data and then define, own and drive a coherent implementation strategy.
  • Closely interface with the GRC function to establish policies for security, privacy, retention policies and AI governance, aligning with central teams as needed.
  • Closely interface with central/integration Architects taking a holistic view to identify opportunities and drive positive change.
  • Alignment with data and engineering functions within our peer platforms (e.g. Player Account Management platform), agreeing governance and process between platforms.
  • Align with data quality/stewardship efforts within teams. Take a holistic view and facilitate alignment where it can benefit within domains.
  • Champion data governance mindset within teams, including, outreach, driving awareness, training and alignment.
  • We are a global team, and your stakeholders will be in EU and Australia. We promote flexibility and autonomy in your working pattern to accommodate your stakeholders.
  • Ensure that you, and your team, adhere to the Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) obligations within your direct responsibility and control.
  • Ensure any non-compliance incidents within your team are raised through the appropriate channels (Compliance Incidents Process) and that your team are informed of any reporting processes relevant to them.
  • Challenge processes, policies and projects that will negatively impact compliance within the Group.
  • Ensure your team's completion of all mandatory compliance trainings within the set deadline.
  • Reach out to the Compliance Teams if unsure of any of your compliance obligations or the requirements are unclear.

To be successful in this role, we think you will hit many of the criteria:

  • Demonstrable holistic experience working in data domains, including data architecture, data engineering, data product development, data stewardship/quality management, and data governance.
  • Experience having successfully driven high profile data governance initiatives, and able to quantify the impact and benefits.
  • Demonstrate how you have driven organisational and cultural changes through creating and selling a vision accompanied by a coherent delivery plan.
  • Understanding and experience with compliance and legislation, experience working with data protection officers and GRC functions.
  • Although this role is a strategic leadership position, you will be expected to be technically strong as you guide adoption of principles and policies, supporting technical teams on adoption of technologies and best practice for implementation. There will likely be instances where you need to provide tooling to enable adaptation of policies. Technologies used by the teams include Kafka, AWS S3, DynamoDB, Postgres, Elastic, Airflow, DBT, openmetadata, asyncAPI. Development work is Java, Python, .NET.
  • You will have a good understanding of data and engineering system design and architecture, and able to engage with architects as peers as one of your stakeholder groups.
  • Your success will be based on driving adoption of your strategy, policies, and principles, so the ability to sell a vision and influence is essential – you will be a clear and persuasive communicator with gravitas.
  • Confident presenting and able to tailor your messaging for different audiences, from delivery teams through to Directors and Execs.
  • Ability to clearly articulate initiatives, accomplishments and value derived from governance initiatives from quarter to quarter.
