We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic consultant psychiatrist to join our CAMHS team in Kingston. The postholder will join 12 CAMHS Consultants within the Trust Service Line. This post is offered as an 8PA substantive post in the Kingston Tier 3 CAMH service and ADHD clinic. This post has become available due to a resignation.
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Directorate of Southwest London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust is a well-established provider of mental health services to the boroughs of Richmond, Sutton, Kingston, Merton and Wandsworth.
The local Kingston CAMHS team is highly specialist comprising of family therapy, psychology, nursing, non medical prescribers and administration staff. The team has access to trust wide services such as the DBT group programme, eating disorder service, emergency services covering the 3 acute hospitals served by the Trust and a Learning Disability Service together with a Deaf Service and a Neurodevelopmental Team.
Main duties of the jobThis is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, mature service to provide both medical and psychological treatment for individuals and families with severe mental health needs and neurodevelopmental needs. There will also be opportunities for the post holder to lead on service development in line with Trust principles and governed by national standards.
The post is within a multidisciplinary team providing a community service and has close links with local authority, education, and the wider borough structure. The post holder will be joining a skilled, motivated, and innovative multidisciplinary team committed to continual learning and development and will be offered excellent CPD opportunities.

Job responsibilitiesThe post-holder will be responsible to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Clinical Director of SW London St Georges Mental Health Trust.

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS and ELIGIBILITY- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
- Additional clinical qualifications.
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
- Exceptional knowledge in specialty, especially the assessment and management of child ren and adolescents with a range of mental health difficulties.
- Excellent clinical skills using bio psycho social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Wide range of specialist and sub specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
- Experience in managing ADHD.
- Training in specialist assessment tools, e.g., 3Di, ADOS etc.
- Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
- Ability to work in and lead a team
- Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement.
- Participated in continuous professional development
- Participated in research or service evaluation.
- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
- Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes
- Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
- Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken
- Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
- Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit, and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations, and publications.
- Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients
