SEND Teaching Assistant – Secondary
Full-time | Permanent | Start: Spring 2026
We are supporting a high-performing secondary school to appoint a SEND Teaching Assistant to join its established SEND department.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to work closely with pupils who have a range of special educational needs, supporting both academic progress and personal development in and beyond the classroom.
The Role
You will work as part of a SEND support team , providing in-class and out-of-class support to students with identified SEND needs. This includes 1:1 support, small group interventions , and contributing to a positive, structured learning environment.
You will play a key role in helping pupils engage with learning, regulate behaviour, and make meaningful progress.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Support students with SEND in lessons and during structured interventions
Deliver targeted small-group support programmes
Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum effectively
Support behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
Promote a calm, purposeful learning environment
Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams
Monitor and support pupil progress and engagement

Essential Skills & Experience
Experience working with children or young people with SEND
Ability to support learning and behaviour effectively
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Calm, consistent and reliable approach
Commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare
Desirable Experience
Experience delivering small group interventions
Experience supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
Experience working in a secondary school setting
Understanding of a range of SEND profiles
