Consultant in Developmental Paediatrics & DMO for SEND

This is an exciting opportunity for a consultant to join a well-established neurodevelopmental and neurodisability team a St George’s University Hospital NHS FoundationTrust and meet rising demand in most of our specialist teams within Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics and the Looked After Children (LAC) Services. The successful candidate will work across and deliver care for the LAC, Developmental Paediatrics, ADHD and ASD sub-specialties.This post includes the designated role (DMO) for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) This post is part of the NDND (Neuro-Developmental & Neuro-Disability) care group within the Children’s Directorate. Within the NDND care group the following services are included: Developmental Paediatrics, Educational Paediatrics, ASD, ADHD, Looked after Children, Neurodisability and District Epilepsy. There are 8 consultants and associated staff. The team is integrated with the other paediatric services in St George’s hospital, which is unique and provides excellent links with other specialities. The Trust has the additional expectation that all staff will be able to identify concerns and know what action to take. Clinical responsibilities of this post:1. Clinical Role Provide clinics for the assessment and management of children with suspected neurodevelopmental delay or disorders including developmental clinics, ADHD, ASD and SEND clinics
2. Managerial Responsibilities Supervise junior staff
3. CPD, Audit & Clinical Governance Participate in CPD activity Support on-going audit within the care group and children’s directorate Observe the clinical governance requirements of the post
4. DMO Role Provide strategic leadership as DMO, including triaging incoming referrals and playing an active role in delivering and improving the service for children with special educational needs · Liaison with DCO · Key link for DCO into Paediatric services at St George’s to include escalation of clinical queries. · Working with Paediatric colleagues to support understanding of developments across Local Area in terms of SEND including understanding of the wider Local Offer ( this has particular relevance in terms of quality of advice )· Work with DCO on quality assurance processes for medical advice as part of Education, Health and Care needs assessment and embed learning within the Paediatric services. This will include at least quarterly audits. · Attend Wandsworth SEND partnership board ( quarterly )· Participate in bimonthly SWL DCO DMO network( bi monthly )· Review effectiveness of pathways with St George’s for CYP with SEND.
