An outstanding secondary school in the London Borough of Haringey is seeking to appoint a compassionate and dedicated Welfare Officer to support the wellbeing and safeguarding of its students. The Welfare Officer plays a crucial role within the school community, working closely with pastoral teams, safeguarding leads and families to promote student wellbeing, attendance and engagement. Key Responsibilities

• Provide frontline welfare support to students during the school day
• Support students experiencing emotional, social or wellbeing challenges
• Work closely with the safeguarding team to support vulnerable students
• Assist with attendance monitoring and follow-up procedures
• Liaise with parents and carers regarding student welfare and wellbeing
• Support the management of the school medical room and first aid provision
• Maintain accurate records of welfare incidents and interventions
• Work with pastoral staff to develop support plans for students in need
• Promote positive wellbeing initiatives across the school
• Assist students returning to school after illness or absence
• Provide support during unstructured times such as break and lunch
• Work collaboratively with external agencies where appropriate

Requirements

• Experience working with young people in an educational or pastoral role
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and student wellbeing
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
• Confidence maintaining confidential records and safeguarding procedures
• First aid qualification (or willingness to obtain one)
• Commitment to supporting inclusion and student welfare
• Ability to work effectively within a team
