An outstanding secondary school in Romford is seeking to appoint an inspiring and ambitious Head of Drama from September 2026 to lead a thriving and well-established department. This is a full-time, permanent position and an exciting opportunity for an experienced Drama teacher ready to shape the future of performing arts within a highly successful school community.
Drama plays a valued role within the curriculum and wider life of the school. Students are enthusiastic, creative and eager to perform, and the subject enjoys strong support from both staff and leadership. We are looking for a passionate practitioner who can bring energy, creativity and strong leadership to the department. Whether directing productions, developing an innovative curriculum or inspiring students to build confidence through performance, you will play a key role in fostering a love of Drama across the school.
The Role
As Head of Drama, you will lead the strategic development of the department and oversee the delivery of an engaging and ambitious Drama curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to contribute to Key Stage 5 where appropriate.
You will:
Lead and develop the Drama curriculum to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
Inspire students through engaging practical and theoretical lessons.
Monitor student progress and implement strategies to maximise achievement.
Lead and support extracurricular Drama opportunities, including productions, performances and enrichment activities.
Manage departmental resources and contribute to whole-school initiatives.
Support and develop colleagues within the department through collaboration and sharing of best practice.

The Ideal Candidate
We would love to hear from candidates who:
Hold QTS and a relevant degree in Drama, Theatre Studies, Performing Arts or a related subject.
Have a strong track record of successful Drama teaching across KS3 and KS4.
Have experience leading or contributing significantly to a Drama department.
Are passionate about theatre, performance and creative education.
Can inspire students of all abilities and backgrounds.
Have excellent organisational and leadership skills.
Are committed to maintaining high expectations and positive outcomes for all learners.
Enjoy working collaboratively and contributing to the wider life of the school.
