About the Role

We’re looking for a Product Owner (Payments) who will lead, shape and execute a cost-efficient, compliant, and market-leading payments product strategy that enhances customer experience, reduces operational risk, and supports InvestEngine’s growth objectives.
You’ll own the roadmap across funding, withdrawals, and recurring payments, working closely with Operations, Compliance, Risk, Technology, Finance, and external partners to deliver scalable, secure and commercially sound payment solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Set the payments roadmap so it supports growth, lowers costs, meets regulation and is resilient in day-to-day operations.
  • Deliver improvements end-to-end: take ideas from discovery through launch and ongoing refinement across funding, withdrawals and recurring payments.
  • Lead key initiatives: establish and optimise Direct Debit operations; negotiate and integrate with Open Banking providers; strengthen withdrawal processes; explore card payments where they add value.
  • Tighten controls and automation in reconciliation and settlement to cut errors, reduce manual work and speed up issue resolution.
  • Partner with Technology to plan and deliver robust technical integrations with payment partners.
  • Meet regulatory standards set by the Financial Conduct Authority, the Payment Systems Regulator and the Consumer Duty rules; monitor changes and lead any updates we need to make.
  • Own the commercial levers: build simple models, assess partner economics, negotiate better terms and deliver measurable savings across Direct Debit, card and Open Banking.
  • Use insight to guide decisions: combine customer feedback, market research and competitor reviews to make journeys faster, clearer and more reliable.
  • Bring teams together so changes land smoothly with clients and partners, and everyone understands what’s changing and why.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience owning payment products in financial services or a closely related domain.
  • Strong judgement on priorities and trade-offs across customer needs, commercial impact, technical feasibility and regulation.
  • A track record delivering complex integrations or provider changes, from clear requirements to successful launch.
  • Confidence in negotiating with suppliers and improving partner economics.
  • Working knowledge of UK payments regulation and how to build effective controls into product design.
  • Comfortable working with engineers on technical integrations and scalable architecture.
  • Clear communication, thoughtful documentation and the ability to align Operations, Risk, Compliance, Finance, Technology and Customer teams.
