Validation and Capital Actuary in London Area
Job description
Capital & Validation Actuary – Specialty Insurance & Reinsurance (Anonymous Employer)
A leading specialty insurer and reinsurer is seeking a Capital & Validation Actuary to join its high-performing Actuarial function. The business is recognised for its analytical strength, innovative mindset, and collaborative culture, and is continuing to enhance its actuarial and risk capabilities.
About the Role
The Capital & Validation Actuary will play a central role in ensuring the robustness, credibility, and regulatory compliance of the organisation’s internal capital model. You will work closely with actuarial, finance, risk, and underwriting teams to support model development, challenge key assumptions, and carry out independent validation activities across all major risk categories.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an analytically minded actuary who enjoys problem solving, engaging with stakeholders, and improving modelling frameworks within a dynamic and growing business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the validation of the internal capital model, ensuring high standards of accuracy, governance, and documentation.
- Help develop validation frameworks, methodologies, and supporting toolkits.
- Ensure validation processes and documentation meet all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Act as a primary liaison for independent validation teams.
- Provide robust challenge to modelling assumptions, methodologies, and outputs, with clear recommendations for improvement.
- Prepare clear, concise validation reports for senior management, boards, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with the wider capital team to support ongoing model improvement initiatives.
- Support the production of capital outputs for Solvency UK, Lloyd’s requirements, and internal risk management reporting, including both regular and ad hoc internal model uses.
- Develop a strong understanding of the organisation’s risk profile and capital drivers.
- Maintain up-to-date awareness of regulatory developments and industry best practice in capital modelling and validation.
Skills & Experience
- Qualified actuary (FIA or equivalent) with a strong background in modelling and/or validation.
- Proven experience in capital modelling, validation, risk modelling, or related actuarial fields, ideally within the Lloyd’s market.
- Strong technical skills, ideally including experience with tools such as ReMetrica.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities with strong attention to detail and a solutions-focused mindset.
- Effective communication skills, able to translate complex modelling concepts into meaningful insights for non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, well-organised, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Flexible and adaptable in approach, with the ability to take on a broad range of tasks.
